About this festival

The Republic of Korea Youth Day is a statutory commemorative holiday that originated from a youth commemorative event initiated by the civic organization Youth and Future. Since 2016, Youth and Future has held annual Youth Day commemoration events in September to spread social consensus on designating Youth Day as a statutory commemorative holiday and to raise public interest in promoting youth interests and rights; from 2017 onwards, it has developed into a representative youth festival of the Republic of Korea under the official name "Republic of Korea Youth Day Festival". Subsequently, on 9 January 2020, the "Youth Basic Act", which contained provisions designating Youth Day as a statutory commemorative holiday, passed the National Assembly plenary session, and Youth Day was designated as a statutory commemorative holiday held on the third Saturday of September each year. The Republic of Korea Youth Day Festival is held for the purpose of widely informing the public of the significance of Youth Day as a statutory commemorative holiday and expanding youth social participation, promoting youth interests and rights, and activating youth culture. This year, marking the tenth anniversary of Youth Day, the tenth Republic of Korea Youth Day Festival will be held in the Gwangan-ri area of Busan, a representative tourist destination of the Republic of Korea. The festival operates programmes spanning diverse fields of youth including youth policy promotion, culture and arts, employment and entrepreneurship, performances, experiences, and the content industry, and through varied content such as K-POP concerts, university song festivals, Republic of Korea Youth Dream gala concerts, youth film awards, Korea cheerleading championships, and creator awards, it is held as a representative youth festival of the Republic of Korea where youth and citizens communicate and participate together.
